A Weekend In New York For The 2007 Online Watch Enthusiast Gathering

Day 1 - Thursday, May17th 2007

For many, many months I've been looking forward to this event organized by Milos "Watchfan1" from Timezone.  I've gotten to know Milos quite well both online and offline - I even had the opportunity to visit he and his wife Eveta la last Summer in Tampa.  So the opportunity to visit with him again was draw enough for my to book my flight to NYC months ago when the event was announced, to say nothing of the opportunity to meet other watch enthusiasts I've known only online for several years.  Oh yea...I guess it would be fun to see NYC again too.

My wife Karen and I left work on Thursday and went to the Dayton airport to catch our flight which would eventually get us to LaGuardia airport in New York. We wasted no time in grabbing a taxi, and heading toward Manhattan!  Here's a shot from the taxi ride inside the Queens bridge:

We quickly arrived at our hotel - The Times Square Marriot.  It was ideally located at the corner of 39th and 6th.

We dragged our luggage up to the seventh floor suite:

The room was plenty comfy with a fantastic view and some nice amenities - so far the trip was off to a good start!

Karen and I were both pretty tired, but also knew that the weather forecast was calling for considerable rain for the weekend.  We decided to take a midnight stroll just a few blocks over to Times Square.

We could hardly belive how much Times Square had changed since we last visted - it was absolutely beautiful!

I pointed out to Karen the MTV Studios location in the heart of Times Square:

The entrance to the famous MTV Studios building owned by Viacom:

Directly across the street is the famous Virgin Records store:

Now, what did we happen to come across in front of Planet Hollywood?

It was a famous New York horse drawn carriage with a beautiful white horse.

"Your carriage awaits my dear!" I bought Karen a pink rose from a street vendor, and we ventured forth on our guided tour:

Here's a few photos of the sights we took in along the way:

Here's a little something we folks from South Western Ohio will recognize - who knew there was a Dave & Busters in Manhattan??

Some folks think an entire store dedicated to watches is silly - how about an entire store which is dedicated to M&M's? The M&M Store!

By this time, Karen and I were VERY tired, and we knew we had a long day of sightseeing on Friday and the first of the weekend's watch events. So we headed back to the hotel and got a good night's sleep.  But our weekend was off to a fabulous start!
